Wraparound Couplings for In Situ Pipe Repair

Large diameter pipe repair is not always simple.

In many cases, contractors cannot remove the damaged section of pipe. Access may be limited, the pipe may sit in a confined space, or replacing a full section may add unnecessary time, cost and disruption.

That is where VIPSeal wraparound couplings can help.

VIPSeal VWRC wraparound couplings give contractors a practical repair option for large diameter pipes where they need to seal the damaged area in situ.

Instead of cutting out and replacing the full pipe section, installers can fit the coupling around the existing pipe and seal over the damaged area.

As a result, wraparound couplings can help with localised pipe damage, isolated fractures, voids and repair areas where a more targeted approach is needed.

Large diameter pipe repair without full replacement

VIPSeal VWRC wraparound couplings give contractors a practical repair option where they need to seal localised pipe damage in situ.

When should contractors use wraparound couplings?

Contractors use wraparound couplings when they need to repair a damaged pipe but cannot easily remove it.

Typical applications include:

  • large diameter pipe repairs
  • localised pipe damage
  • isolated fractures in the pipe wall
  • voids or small damaged sections
  • confined space repairs
  • difficult access areas
  • low and non-pressurised pipework
  • projects where full pipe replacement would cause added disruption

For drainage teams and civil engineering contractors, this can make the repair process more practical on site.

Sealing over damaged pipe sections

Installers fit VIPSeal wraparound couplings around the outside of the pipe and seal across the damaged area.

This helps create a watertight seal without removing the pipe from position. It also gives installers a flexible repair option when they need to work with large pipes or awkward site conditions.

However, every repair is different. For that reason, accurate pipe outside diameter details are important when making an enquiry.

This helps the VIPSeal team match the coupling to the pipe size, repair area and site requirements.

Made to order for each repair

VIPSeal manufactures VWRC wraparound couplings to suit each repair requirement.

The range starts from 300mm and VIPSeal supplies each coupling as a custom order product. This makes the range suitable for larger pipe repair projects where standard off-the-shelf couplings may not be the right fit.

VIPSeal manufactures VWRC wraparound couplings from EPDM as standard. Where required, nitrile sleeves are also available.

Each coupling comes with 304 stainless steel tension bands as standard. For higher corrosion risk, contaminated ground or marine environments, VIPSeal can also supply 316 stainless steel tension bands.

Useful for confined spaces and difficult access

Pipe repair can become more difficult when access is limited.

For example, a damaged pipe may sit in a chamber, trench, culvert or tight working area. In these situations, removing and replacing a full pipe section may not be practical.

A wraparound coupling can offer a more straightforward repair method.

By sealing the damaged section in place, installers can reduce the need for larger excavation work or more disruptive pipe replacement.

A practical solution for large diameter pipe repair

Every pipe repair is different. Pipe condition, access, outside diameter, ground conditions and the type of damage can all affect the best repair method.

VIPSeal wraparound couplings provide a practical option where damaged pipework needs to be sealed in situ, especially where full pipe replacement would add time, cost or disruption.

For drainage and sewer repair projects, contractors should always consider the pipe condition, site access and any relevant construction or testing requirements.
